About

Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. I have been working in the field of web design and development since 2004. At the time when I first registered as a self-employed webdesigner, the big thing was Flash. There was even much speculation at this time that the world wide web would eventually become entirely flash-driven!

I embraced that idea early on and built a number of Flash driven websites for small businesses in the UK. However, my client’s requirements quickly became more complex and it became clear that data was going to play a huge role in the way the internet would evolve. This era(~2005) coincided with the release of PHP5 and I decided to use it, along with MySQL for a holiday search website I had been commissioned to build. I ditched Flash and switched wholeheartedly to the LAMP ecosystem going on to become a Zend Certified PHP Engineer in 2008 and work on a variety of custom PHP and Zend Framework web apps for businesses in the UK and Europe as well as remote clients in Canada and the US.

I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing startups, well known brands and even a couple of TV celebrities along the way! In 2012 I became an employer and provided opportunities for trainees and internships at a local university.

The new challenge I have given myself is to embrace immersive technologies from a creative perspective and go on to build and publish my own apps on virtual and mixed-reality platforms.

I shall be using this blog space as a journal to accompany my journey and document my associated research
